GOLD COAST: (December
thru August).
Surfers Paradise the
center of the Gold Coast is Australia’s tourist Mecca of sun sand surf
five star hotels and apartments plus the theme parks Movie World,
Dreamworld, and Seaword. It is also home to very productive gamefishing
grounds with Blue Marlin present on a year round basis. Also present
predominantly in the winter months (May-August) are Striped and Black
Marlin.
During summer
(December to March) juvenile Black Marlin are often present in large
numbers just off the beach. These fish offer spectacular light tackle
fishing (8kg standup) whereas offshore fishing for Blues is definitely
medium/heavy (24/37kg) game chair action.
Most fishing from
the Gold Coast involves day trips however multi day live aboard charters
can take in the Cape Moreton grounds to the north.

CAIRNS:
(September thru November).
The Great Barrier Reef section from Cairns North to Lizard Island is
recognised as the Black Marlin capital of the world.
Black Marlin
migrate to this area to spawn with the first fish appearing in September
and the “season” ending in December. Cairns is where the “granders”
(1000lb and bigger) lurk so most anglers prefer 60kg heavy tackle.
Mistress is
available for day trips or multi day live aboard charters. The obvious
advantage of live aboard charters, fully catered; is the opportunity to
overnight inside the spectacular Great Barrier Reef; enjoy bottom fishing
for dinner, snorkeling or swimming and spend more time chasing the big
ones.
However some
charterers prefer day tripping, even over several days so that they can
get their feet on dry land at night! Or enjoy Cairns nightlife.
